St. Petersburg division of Russian academy of cosmonautics named after K.E. Tsiolkovsky (RAKTs) is created attached to FSUE "KB "Arsenal" by initiative of the presidium of RAKTs on December 12, 2000, with the purpose to widen activities of the academy in the North-West region of Russian Federation.
9 scientific centers of the following enterprises and organizations perform the mission of the academy:

OAO VNII Transmash;
5.
Mozhaiskii VKA;
6.
GNTs RF TsNII RTK;

NITs-2nd of 4th TsNII MO RF;

BGTU Ustinov VOENMEKh;
9.
Plesetsk cosmodrome.
St. Petersburg division of RAKTs includes 43 Academicians, 31 Corresponding Members, some of which are members of Russian Academy of Sciences and international academies, there are 26 doctors of sciences and 27 candidate of sciences among them.
Public works for the interest of the academy are carried out by professionals of the highest qualification – famous scientists, chief designers in the fields of rocket and space systems, complexes, devices, optics, NII directors, laboratories leaders, high school professors, and humanitarians. They contribute significantly in solution of the country protection problem, problems of telecommunication, navigation, naturalistic, meteorological, economics and other social-economic tasks.
St. Petersburg division of RAKTs’ activity is supervised by its presidium headed by the president Boris I. Poletaev and two vice-presidents.
