AK-130
130 mm two-gun shipboard Artillery Mount

A governmental АК-130decree of 1967 entrusted creation of a new seaborne universal AM of tower-type of calibers 100 and 130 mm to KB and MZ Arsenal for mount on navy ships of the new generation.

KB Arsenal, after development of AK-100 AM, commenced to creation of shipboard universal automatic two-gun artillery mount of caliber 130 mm (AK-130 AM). It was required by Russian Navy to achieve technical characteristics for the AM, which 3-5 times higher that of foreign analogues in rate of fire and quantity of shells for automatic firing (it is possible to change a kind of shells during firing). The choice of the most rational system for supplying the AM with the shells was the most complicated task. This task was successfully accomplished owing to unitary shell of caliber 130 mm, created by NIIMI for the first time in artillery practice.  This allowed to simplify the device of supply of shells and to increase reliability of the AM up to the required characteristics.

AM AK130 is a complicated automated system containing a complex of highly dynamical control and executive units.  Originality of schematic solutions and novelty of structure were protected with 77 author’s certificates for inventories. AM AK-130, as well as AM AK-100, can be used in such naval ships as frigates and torpedo-boat destroyers.  AM AK-130 is installed on Russian naval ships (projects number 956, 144, etc.) and successfully applied by Chinese navy. Mission of AM AK-130 is similar to that of AM AK-100, but it is more powerful and effective destroyer. Technical and tactical characteristic of AM AK-130 is superior to these of foreign competitive AM of similar caliber. In this connection after putting into exploitation the lead ship on the project 956, a group of leading experts of KB Arsenal was rewarded with governmental awards, while the chief designer for artillery area E.I Malishevsky was rewarded with money award prize named after Lenin.
